Natural hair breakage is usually caused by dryness, poor hair nourishment, even using heat which can get in the way of length retention. The telltale signs of breakage or damaged hair includes brittle texture, tangles, short broken off ends, and split ends.
This post details some tips that I have incorporated and used when it comes to the prevention of hair breakage and length retention of hair.
(A) DO NOT comb hair while it is wet. While the hair is wet, the root become weaker and that makes it susceptible to hair breakage and even hair loss. If you have you deal with wet hair be gentle. I use the term PACK A LOT OF PATIENCE. I would suggest if you must comb while wet, use a wide tooth comb.
(B) DO NOT use a hair dryer continuously at high temps. High temps make the hair come dry and brittle which can cause breakage. If you must use heat, use a lower temp and let the hair be damp and not soaking wet.
(C) DO NOT change hair styles continuously. What one may do their hair, you may not be able to do to yours. My hair for example is very soft and fine, so hairstyles that are high undo and braids will not be susceptible for me due MY hair will not hold the style and in some cases, it will break.
So, with this step, knowing your hair is key. Also, when styling hair continuously the strands can become stressed and break. If you choose to style, consider giving youth hair a break in between styles. If your hair is damaged, consider nurturing your hair back to health before styling.
(D) Consider using hair accessories they will not break the hair. Some hair accessories such as rubber bands and hair clips can break the hair, if used improperly. I use head bands that have loose elastic as well to prevent the band from being too tight causing hair breakage

(E) Hair can also break due from protein loss. If hair breaks easily chances are a good protein treatment will aid and combat against hair breakage.
(F) Over manipulating hair such as combing or brushing to often can cause hair breakage as well. Doing this continuously causes stress to hair causing it to break. Remember the oldest part of the hair is the hair shaft. TREAT IT CARFEULLY
(G) Tight Braids is another cause of hair breakage. Tight braids cause the hair to weaken significantly which in some cases cause the hair follicle to be damage where the hair can never grow back. While braids can aide significantly in protective styling. Make sure the braids are not too tight.
(H) Not trimming hair can also cause the break. Do not hold on to straggly ends. Cut them, doing this prevents the hair for getting intertwined with other strands causing them to break.
