Is Grease Bad or Good for the Hair?

Spread the love

Now I want you to think back when you were a little girl, we used grease all the time and our hair was thick flowing and had excellent length.  Now that we are older and should be wiser, critics are saying that hair grease is bad!!! But I am here to state that hair grease is good.  I remember as a little girl we grew up on Blue Magic, Softee and Dax.  My grandmother raised me and she used all these hair greases to oil my scalp and press my hair.  My hair thrived as a result.  It wasn’t until I got the relaxer and all my hair problems began.  But we are not talking about that right now.  HAIR GREASE IS GOOD!!!

The main ingredient in hair grease is petrolatum or in other words good old Vaseline.  Now Vaseline is a protectant that one puts on dry, cracked or inflamed skin. Vaseline creates a barrier and protects the skin.  Same effect when you apply it to the scalp.  Now when I apply grease I use it sparingly on the scalp, but I definitely go in on the hair shaft.  Why?  Because the hair grease creates a barrier to seal in the moisture of my hair, which is essential for natural hair.  Hair grease I must say had even helped my hair grow.  YES, I said it my hair has grown.  All hair grows, but the way we see that hair growth is when it retains the length.  Hair grease has aided significantly with it.

How to apply hair grease?

  • Make sure hair is properly moisturized.  USE A CONDITIONER!!! Hair grease IS NOT a conditioner it is sealant.  I recommend applying to wet or damp hair. Distribute product evenly to achieve maximum results focusing on ends being that is the oldest part of the hair.
  • Lightly grease scalp with hair grease.  I suggest that you start with hair greases are light and not heavy. I recommend ones that air more oil based and soften easy once the fingertip touches the hair grease
  • After grease scalp in sections apply the grease down the hair shaft over the conditioned and detangled hair creating sealant for the moisture.  This will allow for longer wear for you hair regimen.  I can go up to 2 ½ to 3 weeks sometimes without washing hair as a result!!!
  • To wash out hair you MUST use a sulfate shampoo.  I recommend using a shampoo that will aid in cleaning, but also moisturizing the hair.  However, if the hair is completely stripped after washing, deep conditioner the hair.  Deep conditioning is MUST regardless, however make sure you add this step if hair feels stripped.

Over hair greases are excellent for the hair when used properly and removed properly. Depending on your hair type, I recommend a heavier hair grease for coarser hair and a light grease for more finer and softer hair. Please follow my YouTube Channel.
